I had some very GOODPLAYERS and some wonderful young players HITTING the scene. Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Michael Owen - we had something tangible to WORK with and MOVE forward.
I wasn't a goalkeeper until I was 13 or 14 so before that, my heroes were the likes of PAUL Scholes and David Beckham, but SINCEBECOMING a goalkeeper, I've obviously trained with JOE Hart.
During my time playing for England we had Wayne Rooney, DAVID Beckham, Michael Owen, Steven Gerrard, FRANK Lampard, Paul Scholes. They were world-class players playing for Chelsea, Man United, LIVERPOOL, ARSENAL, all legends of the game.
Watching people like my DAD, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Eric Cantona every day in TRAINING was incredible. I saw how hard they worked, the perfectionism and absolute DEDICATION required to reach the top.
Beckham was the one I always LOOKED up to - the TECHNIQUE, his crossing on the move or set-pieces. But as a KID, I just PLAYED with my brother. He was playing for Oldham, in League One and League Two, and he's the one I REALLY looked up to.
I've met lots of footballers like Alan Shearer, DAVIDBECKHAM, and Steven Gerrard. I don't REALLY get starstruck because I just think they're another FOOTBALLER like me; they just get PAID a lot more.
