Sadly, so many arts programs have been eliminated from SCHOOLS due to budget CONSTRAINTS. These creative outlets are so very important, not only for a CHILD's WELL-BEING, but also for self-expression and FUN.

The accomplishment that I am most proud of is that 'Free Willy' and 'Dave' got a POLITICAL message out, which isn't easy to do WITHIN the constraints of STUDIO moviemaking.

There's a misunderstanding that I've always TRIED to address straight on when this question comes up, which is that a 'Half-Life' story can somehow EXIST outside of a game. It can't. The story is created through the process of TRYING to figure out how to best use the features of the ENGINE within the interesting set of constraints it poses.

In my experience, people are usually FIRED for reasons having to do with budgetary CONSTRAINTS, INCOMPETENCE or not fulfilling the terms of a CONTRACT.

You have to do what the STORY DEMANDS, but inside of those constraints, I TRY to inject as MUCH realistic physics as I'm allowed to.

Sony could have $50 MILLION and a SOUND stage and A-list actors and never MAKE the same film. The CONSTRAINTS on this film became the essence of this film, became the power of this film.

I'm DYING to do a tiny indie and PLAY SOMETHING totally naturalistic without any SORT of constraints on me. Something where I can SHOCK everyone.

I don't UNDERSTAND, given the constraints PHYSICIANS have in doing their JOB and the paperwork demanded of them, why PEOPLE want to be physicians. I think we've made it very, very difficult for them to perform their job. I think that's a SHAME.
