At the University of California at BERKELEY, my interests broadened from MILITARY HISTORY to diplomatic history and other disciplines.

The methodologies of examining hip hop are borrowed from SOCIOLOGY, politics, RELIGION, ECONOMICS, urban studies, journalism, communications THEORY, American studies, transatlantic studies, black studies, history, musicology, comparative literature, ENGLISH, linguistics, and other disciplines.

Many dotcoms recruited people from EXISTING COMPANIES who were quite experienced in finance, marketing, DISTRIBUTION and other disciplines but not necessarily experienced in the WEB culture.

My experience in DECISION-MAKING has shown that patterns are tough to BREAK. In the military, we STUDY an opponent, looking for gaps, flaws, or weaknesses that can be exploited. Successful leaders at all levels in all disciplines conduct this KIND of analysis.

The United States is a leader across a broad RANGE of SCIENTIFIC disciplines. Our technological prowess is part of our greatness as a NATION. Sadly, among the rich industrialized nations, we also lead by a substantial margin in the rate of poverty among children.

When I TRAVEL, I connect with creative people in all DIFFERENT fields and disciplines. It's sort of just to keep my finger on the PULSE of what's going on. I think that's IMPORTANT.

I believe there are so MANY other disciplines and THEMES that we STILL haven't explored yet. It's INFINITE what we can apply our CREATIVITY to.

Everyone has SOMETHING to LEARN from one ANOTHER. When DIFFERENT disciplines meet, it creates this AMAZING unpredictability.
