I don't think we can go into IMPORTANT LOCAL elections next YEAR... with TONY Blair as leader and expect to keep MANY of the councillors we've got now.

2018 is an incredibly important election year, not just with the important midterms here in the U.S., but you just had the MEXICAN elections. You have Brazil. You have India coming up at the beginning of NEXT year. There's an assortment of elections AROUND the EU. We're very serious about this. We know that we NEED to GET this right.

The way we're going to WIN elections in this COUNTRY is not to become REPUBLICAN lite. The way we're going to win elections in this country is to stand up for what we BELIEVE in.

In the 1990s, the Lib Dems won a STRING of byelections at the expense of STRUGGLING Conservative GOVERNMENTS. Christchurch, Ribble Valley and Eastbourne went straight BACK to the Tories at the next general ELECTION, but the Lib Dems held their later byelection gains - Eastleigh, Newbury and Romsey - in at least two subsequent general elections.

As we have ALWAYS seen here in the U.S. the UNIVERSAL TRUTH about ELECTIONS is that people vote their pocketbook.

All elections revolve around and are often resolved by who raises the most money. That's unfair. I'd like to SEE that process CHANGED, but it seems once you win and get to Congress, that doesn't HAPPEN.

Those of us who ACTUALLY were working in the region at the time will point out how strongly committed we were to supporting the democratic PROCESS and ENCOURAGING ELECTIONS, in SPITE of the fact that a war was going on in several of these countries.

Incumbent White House PARTIES have won 10 of the LAST 18 PRESIDENTIAL elections; the odds are tight, but they favor OBAMA in 2012. And so gloomy Democrats, CHECK your despair; gleeful Republicans, watch the hubris.

Maryland first allowed early VOTING during the 2010 primary elections. In November 2012, more than 16 PERCENT of registered voters in Maryland CAST their ballots during the early voting PERIOD, and some polling places, particularly in our larger jurisdictions, witnessed early voting lines that were hours long.

In VENEZUELA, we have movement for FREEDOM, for democracy, that has taken years and sacrifice to build, and a MAJORITY through protests to win elections to ALIGN ourselves with the world that recognizes the fight for democracy in Venezuela.
