It's such a LONG mission and we GET to spend so MUCH time in space... we're doing such exciting research. And I don't want to overemphasize the life science research, but as a physician the life science research that we're doing is EXTREMELY exciting.
There was a MOTH in there, and it still had its wings crumpled up, and it was just starting to pump its wings up. Life continues in LOTS of PLACES, and life is a MAGICALTHING.
I remember looking at the moon as an 8-year-old and marveling that there were two astronauts in a lander on the SURFACE, getting ready to GO out and ACTUALLY walk. That SETTLED it for me: I knew I was going to at LEAST try to become an astronaut. I wanted to be like those guys.
Is a one-way trip to MARSEVER really seriously going to happen? Surely that's morally reprehensible. HOWEVER old people are, however much they say they want to go on a one-way MISSION, people should be THINKING about the possibility of returning.
