I have more pet peeves than anybody: people talking in the movie THEATER, people EATING in the movie theater loudly, people being rude, people making noise when you're supposed to be asleep, like drilling NOISES outside. I COULD be here all day.

I could hear from the CROWD some MONKEY noises, and this went on for about 25 minutes. Every time I touched the BALL, I could hear the crowd. I said to myself, 'In this kind of environment, in this situation, I don't want to PLAY football ANYMORE.'

When we first started, in the early Eighties, we had some crappy guitars - JAPANESE knockoffs that wouldn't hold standard tuning. Later, we'd shove drumsticks or screwdrivers under strings to scheme NEW noises, SURE. But initially, open tuning was a technique used to MAKE our cheap guitars sound better. It wasn't academic or conceptual.

TAKE the perspective of a journalist or scientist. Really STUDY what's around you. What are people wearing, what do the interiors of buildings look like, what noises do you hear? If you BRING your analytical POWERS to bear, you can make almost anything INTERESTING.
