At some point, I had to MAKE a DECISION: I could practice more and become a REALLY great GUITAR player or I could work on writing BETTER songs. There are only so many hours in the day, and I found writing songs more fulfilling than working on becoming this virtuoso guitar player.
The MAJORITY of our fans are dudes. And the CHICKS you do see at our shows are probably there because of a dude. Slayer shows are nothing but sausage fests. We always JOKE that we really NEED to write some love songs or SOMETHING.
I don't think there is anything hard at all about having a lot of SONGS. It makes it EASIER to be less PRECIOUS about them, and KNOW that everybody's going to want to work on some of them.
Sometimes if I feel the songs are too much, it HURTS, but then I open my EYES: PEOPLE are singing along or crying, and the 7-year-old in me is like, 'Yeahhh.'
I'm a Gemini and I have a lot of different moods. Sometimes I'm very SERIOUS and INTROSPECTIVE and pensive, but other TIMES I'm completely GOOFY and girlie. So, I LIKE my songs to cover all my moods.
I bought a BOOK with guitar tabs and forced myself to learn. I WOULD go to SCHOOL and then come HOME and SIT in my room for hours figuring out the songs.
I'm not that BIG a FAN of SAMPLING. But I feel LIKE if I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it to where it's more of a reimagining of a track. The songs that I do utilize samples on, most of it you wouldn't even be able to tell what it was unless I told you.
