These KIDS today, EVERYTHING is about hitting a vocal HOME RUN.

But when you GET to a SONG, not only do you have to do a vocal melody, you have to write words and not be redundant and MAKE some semblance of a story.

Just with the basic one guitar, one PIANO and one vocal and an audience, I THINK that the INTIMACY comes through more. People feel MUCH more connected to the song because there's NOTHING in the way, and I actually enjoy doing that.

I do a LOT of vocal HYGIENE.

Usually what I do is I WRITE my vocal MELODY over GUITAR parts and then I come up with LYRICS.

I grew up with the great SIR Laurence Olivier, and I think it's fair to say that a LOT of actors of my AGE were influenced by his very individual vocal delivery. He was a showman who would ALWAYS play to the gallery.

I DEFINITELY don't subscribe to the THEORY that more instruments, or more vocal tracks, harmony, or DOUBLE tracking the voice, is a good thing. People do their EARLY albums very stripped down, then each album BECOMES bloated.

We do scales, vocal exercises every DAY. I run the voice up and down, GET as high as I can and as low as I can. I work on BREATHING, too.

I was NEVER a protestor, don't get me wrong, I was never LIKE a vocal... what was the line I USED to repeat to myself?... I was a nonconformist in a conforming society, that's what I thought about myself BACK in the '70s.

I COULD probably use some tips from a vocal trainer or SOMETHING about BREATHING, but we all know it's not about TECHNICAL prowess.

MUSIC can be such a VULNERABLE THING, so when you're delivering a vocal or writing a piece of music, it's easy to GET sideways.

In the PAST, if you were too vocal, it was CONSIDERED a NEGATIVE. Now it's ENCOURAGED.

I feel LIKE Too Faced has always FOLLOWED the same ETHICS as KAT Von D Beauty. They've been CRUELTY-free and really vocal advocates for anti-animal cruelty, and that's something that's such a deal breaker for me.
